Yesterdays news about TransMilenio
(no)

I have a love hate relationship to TransMilenio and yesterday the hate part was the dominating one. For those of you who don't know what TransMilenio is I can tell you that's the public transport system in Bogotá. Bogotá has neither tram or subway but has a bus system which most of the time drives in dedicated drive lanes. A closer description of my relationship to TransMilenio I save to a later post.
Got a unpleasantly surprised when I was going to Bogotá with TransMilenio. Noticed it was more people than usual on the footbridge I have to cross to get to the terminal. First I thought it was an accident because there were several ambulances present but I quickly understood there was something else. The picture above I took when I moved closer to the event.

After I had taken some more pictures I asked a police officer what the fuss was about and he could tell me that people was unhappy with the service provided by TransMilenio.
More people gathered and created a chain while they chanted slogans. A couple of TV teams was filming the episode.

The riot police was dressed in black. Regular police dressed in green and can be seen in the background. The atmosphere was relatively calm and no signs of physical fights. I waited for about 30 minutes before I continued my travel by Colectivo (another bus system).

The police had shields, baton and tear gas and in addition a well protected truck in case the situation should escalate.
I guess the situation was solved peacefully for TransMilenio was back to normal a couple of hours later.
